What people mean by “ASVAB pre-test”
Recruiters often use “ASVAB pre-test” for the official AFQT Predictor Test. OfficialASVAB.com describes the APT as an unproctored, adaptive test with 20 questions from Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge, and Paragraph Comprehension. It generally takes 20–30 minutes.
The APT predicts an AFQT result; it is not the full ASVAB, the PiCAT, or a score of record. Only the recruiter who registered the applicant can view the result, and the official program says that prediction is not a guarantee of a future ASVAB score.

Ask a military recruiter for an APT access code
The official APT is recruiter-issued. You cannot create your own code through EnlistiQ or another commercial study site.

Open the current government portal
Use the current DoD APT portal and follow the recruiter’s instructions. Current official guidance says the code expires 30 days after it is generated.

Complete the test without outside help
Once you first use the code, finish within 48 hours. Use a quiet place, stable internet, scratch paper, and a pen or pencil—without a calculator or assistance.

Discuss the predicted AFQT result with your recruiter
The registering recruiter can see the result. It is a prediction, not an official ASVAB score, enlistment decision, or guarantee.

What is the ASVAB pre-test or APT?
The official name is the AFQT Predictor Test (APT). It is a 20-item adaptive online test that helps a recruiter predict how an applicant may score on the AFQT if the applicant takes the ASVAB.
Is the APT the ASVAB or PiCAT?
No. The APT is shorter and covers only Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge, and Paragraph Comprehension. It is a predictor, not the ASVAB, PiCAT, or a score of record.
How many questions are on the APT, and how long does it take?
The current official APT page says it has 20 adaptive items and generally takes 20 to 30 minutes. There is no item-by-item or test time limit, but the test must be completed within 48 hours after the access code is first used.
How do I get an APT access code?
Contact a military recruiter. The recruiter issues the access code, which expires 30 days after it is generated. Once you first use the code, you have 48 hours to finish the APT.
Can I see my APT score?
According to the current official APT page, the registering recruiter can view the predicted AFQT score, but the applicant cannot access that score directly.
Does an APT result guarantee my ASVAB or AFQT score?
No. The APT produces a prediction, and the official program says it is not a guarantee of the score an applicant will receive on the ASVAB.
