Packing List

Space Force enlisted recruits attend Basic Military Training with Air Force trainees and receive additional Guardian-specific instruction. Start with the BMT packing requirements your recruiter provides; do not invent a separate shopping list for a technical space career. The Space Force currently describes BMT as a 7.5-week program. Official Space Force training overview.

Sources checked September 14, 2026. This guide concerns initial enlisted BMT, not officer training or a later technical school. Your orders and current recruiter instructions control what you bring.

Which Packing List Does the Space Force Use?

The memorandum linked from the Air Force's BMT preparation page explicitly covers USAF and USSF BMT recruits. At review, that linked document was dated February 2, 2024. Confirm whether your recruiter has a newer version or supplemental instructions. Official BMT packing memorandum.

Our Air Force BMT packing guide explains the shared checklist, including ID documents, visitor paperwork, clothing, glasses, prescriptions, and electronic-device restrictions. Use the official document for complete quantities and conditions.

Your Space Force Pre-Ship Packing Review

Instead of buying extras because your future work involves technology, walk through these decisions with your recruiter:

Review areaWhat to have settled before you pack
Identity and ordersThe exact original documents and copies required for your accession
Visitors and dependentsApplicable forms, signatures, and supporting records
Clothing and hygieneThe permitted items, quantities, colors, and any personal requirements
Vision and prescriptionsEyewear, labeled medication, documentation, and reporting instructions
Travel phoneWhether your phone and charger are ready and how access is controlled
Later trainingWhich requirements apply now and which belong to a future reporting packet

This table is an EnlistiQ review worksheet. It does not add required purchases to the official list.

Lay your proposed items out beside your current checklist. Assign every item to a specific instruction. If a laptop, tablet, smartwatch, extra uniform, or electronic accessory has no authorized place on the list, resolve the question before buying or packing it.

What Not to Bring to BMT

The shared BMT memorandum excludes smartwatches, unauthorized electronics, high-value belongings, aerosols, alcohol-containing products, nonprescription medicines, supplements, and food or beverages. It separately gives instructions for a phone and charger. BMT packing restrictions.

An eventual job working with computers does not grant permission to bring a personal computer to BMT. Likewise, a fitness device used by a serving Guardian is not automatically authorized for a new recruit.

For any prescription, confirm the required container, documentation, and medical process. Do not stop or adjust prescribed treatment to simplify packing; ask your clinician about treatment and keep your recruiter informed.

Prepare for Military Training Before Technical Training

The Space Force says its BMT includes physical training and testing as well as service-specific instruction. It describes topics including emotional intelligence and Space Force structure. Space Force BMT overview.

An effective preparation plan therefore covers more than reading about satellites. Practice following instructions, completing routine tasks accurately, and working with other people. Organize your room, keep appointments, and get used to being ready before you need to leave.

For fitness, ask your recruiter for the current BMT requirements. The training command's September 2026 FAQ lists push-ups, sit-ups, a two-mile run, and waist-to-height ratio for BMT; your preparation should follow applicable accession instructions rather than assumptions about later operational fitness programs. Get appropriate guidance if you are new to exercise or have an injury or medical concern. A study article cannot clear you for a training program.

Learn Guardian Identity Alongside Shared BMT Knowledge

The Space Force publishes its values as Character, Connection, Commitment, and Courage, and uses service-specific enlisted rank names. Study these alongside the BMT knowledge your recruiter assigns. Guardian values, Space Force rank names.

Try this EnlistiQ study sequence:

  1. Review your assigned values and explain each in your own words for understanding.
  2. Recognize rank names and insignia, checking against official references.
  3. Practice military time and the phonetic alphabet.
  4. Review assigned customs and reporting procedures using the exact required wording.
  5. Explain, in plain language, how BMT differs from the technical training that follows it.

Use separate notes for exact wording and your own study cues. A personal mnemonic can help you remember a fact, but it should not replace an official response your instructor expects.

Keep Home Responsibilities Out of Your Training Time

Write a short plan for bills, mail, pets, and urgent family issues. Agree on who can handle each task while you are away and arrange appropriate account access where needed.

Do not base that plan on having your phone available whenever a problem occurs. Have your recruiter explain current communication expectations and share those with your family. Keep a written contact list with your travel materials.

Final 72-Hour Checklist

  • Confirm that your packing list applies to your USSF BMT accession.
  • Recheck IDs, orders, supporting documents, and required signatures.
  • Confirm travel instructions and the contact for delays.
  • Remove unapproved electronics and unnecessary valuables.
  • Review familiar Guardian and BMT knowledge.
  • Finish family responsibilities and recurring payments.
  • Report relevant medical or personal changes to your recruiter.

Common Questions

Is Space Force boot camp only classroom work?

No. The Space Force's own overview includes physical training and testing within BMT. Technical interests do not remove the need to prepare for military routines.

Do I need a separate bag of technical-school equipment?

Do not add it unless your current reporting instructions require it. Ask your recruiter to distinguish what you need for BMT from what a later school may request.

Where should I practice Guardian knowledge?
