The GT (General Technical) score is the single most referenced ASVAB line score. It determines eligibility for the best military jobs — and it is entirely within your control to raise.

How the GT Score Is Calculated

The GT score formula is simple — it combines your verbal and arithmetic reasoning abilities.

GT = VE + AR

VE (Verbal Expression) = WK + PC  |  AR = Arithmetic Reasoning

NoteBecause VE uses WK and PC, the GT score depends on three subtests: Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Arithmetic Reasoning.

Jobs by GT Score Range

Higher GT scores unlock more desirable MOS/ratings. Here is a rough breakdown for Army jobs:

110+

Intelligence Analyst, Cyber Operations, Linguist, Special Forces candidate

100–109

IT Specialist, Paralegal, Civil Affairs, Human Intelligence Collector

90–99

Military Police, Combat Medic, Public Affairs, Psychological Operations

<90

Infantry, Armor Crew, Motor Transport, Basic logistics roles
